Fire TV and Stick tips

I had put 3 of these on Facebook not realizing you had this forum here, so I guess I'll start dropping them and a 4th one here. These could easily go to the Fire TV FAQ page on the website?

Q: What Alexa commands are used to work on Fire TV apps?
A: Oddly enough, Amazon put this under a 'Smile' category, so it makes it hard to find, but here it is;
http://smile.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?tag=techhivecom-20&nodeId=201859020

Q: Is there a way to do network or connection diagnostics using a Fire TV app?
A: Yes there is, although it's hidden and takes an oddball keypress on the remote to activate;
https://developer.amazon.com/public/solutions/devices/fire-tv/docs/fire-tv-system-xray

Q: My Fire TV / Stick runs slow / sluggish / buffers a lot.
A: Like any tool, the FireTV must have some regular maintenance done on the apps. There are several YouTube videos on this subject, but this one is the one that got me started on this topic...

And I use this tool to help clean out anything left over from unused apps: I managed to reclaim almost 2GB of storage space using it...it's free

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cleanmaster.mguard&hl=en

Q: What does it mean to 'sideload' an application?
A: Sideloading involves installing an Android app that is not necessarily approved for use on the Fire TV by Amazon. This is possible because the FireTV OS is actually an Android fork. This page from AFTVNews has lots to say on this topic;
http://www.aftvnews.com/sideload/

Perhaps this could be the start of a thread to build that FAQ out and get some of these little-known tips out there a bit more

A couple more; one with a correction...

(from the FAQ page - this question is already there but the answer has no links)
Q: How do you install Kodi on Fire Stick?
A; A well structured Google search will come up with many answers, but here are 2 - the first is the official statement from the Kodi wiki

http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Install_Kodi_on_Fire_TV

The next sideloads using the Downloader app:

http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-sideload-apps-like-kodi-or-spmc-on-the-amazon-fire-tv-stick-using-downloader/

Re the question about turning the FireTV off; the sleep mode is NOT turning the player off. It simply reduces the power to the unit and puts it into a quiescent state. Really the only way to turn it off is to unplug it. You can make this simple by using a smart plug like the one from TP-Link that Alexa can address.

Q: Where can you find a list of the history of firmware changes?
A:  http://www.aftvnews.com/amazon-fire-tv-fire-tv-stick-software-update-history/
