Whats up with all the New Video Plug-ins
« on: July 14, 2017, 12:53:53 pm »
Not complaining or trying to start anything... but whats up with all the name changes and what seems like repackaging of some of the video plug-ins...

Its like some of these new plug-ins are cookie-cut from earlier video plug-ins as they seem to use all the same support dependencies and are pulling from a lot of the same sources... seems like rather then just fixing the source locations in light of the recent TVA take down its like their being renamed and just re-released with a new name and source location... and in some cases, some of these "re-branded" plug-ins have just carried earlier issues forward from the prior plug-in they are based on...

Not that its a problem for the more technical people like myself but it seems to be adding to the confusion for the average user who's still dealing with issues after the take down that they weren't aware of and trying to understand why things stopped working for them... i realize that some dev's have always by-passed the whole do their own url resolver but this seems to go beyond that because the common url resolver thing has been going on for years and its understandable why its like that...

Just curious...

To be elusive !
Court injunctions and legal cases can only name that specific add-on,  change the name and they need to restart the whole process again ! ...LoL

Bell, Videotron went after the box retailers ...a dumb move !
DirectTV went after the add-on hub developers ...a smarter move, but will still fail in the end !
None of them can change the future and the way and content people watch !

Aw... we tried those tactics with the satellite hacks here in North America... worked for awhile...

in the end they just forced uncloaking of the writers and then pursued them in court using their real identities... individuals outside of North America fared well but anyone that was US or Canadian was pretty much screwed... i've still got friends hiding out mostly over in asia... try telling them what you said... lol... the satellite hacks never stopped...they just went underground where they continue to run but its outside the dealers reach which keeps things safe...

satellite may be different... but the idea is still the same... people want free media trying to get around the greedy providers here in North America and its a huge market that always starts the same way which is usually a small group of people playing around for fun and their own use and learning create and release something that eventually all the money grubbing dealer types come and abuse for their own purposes till the wild west is large enough for the corporate providers to justify the cost to go after and harass...

and anyone thinking they can't figure out who someone is here in NA then they really aren't living in the real network... theres only a handful of NAP's the NA infrastructure is connected to the various backbones around the world and the NAS, CESA have had access to them for years and some of Snowden's releases which came years later conclusively proved it...

its not been a matter of if they can its a matter of do they need to... to many don't watch the long game and miss the moves being made by Corporations to get favorable laws put into place to allow them to get personal data when they start crying about business loss's... Trump and his "make the usa great again" you can bet will continue to let the corporate lobbiest's get what they want as making the usa great again just kinda say keep everything within the USA...

anyways... that topic is a whole nother discussion...

i just no that in the aftermath of TVA going down a lot of users are finding things confusing with all the name and location changes ... and your answer seems like a fair answer that should give people some understanding as to why... thanx for the response...

The satellite hacks were more complicated for the end user to do themselves and the hardware requires a small investment. I still have my 8ft C/Ku band dish.  OTA is another avenue to get free TV that most GenXers don't even know about since they all grew up on paying for cable and haven't the faintest idea what rabbit ears are. Anyone with an internet connection and $20 mediaplayer box or tablet can use Kodi so there is more people trying this than satellite ever did. Today's greedy businesses want to make 5000%-8000% profit margin without doing anything other than marketing so if they make 2000% they will belly ache and ask for government hand outs !
