does KODI even work?
« on: July 17, 2017, 08:28:53 pm »
I have spent  8 hours trying to get add-ons to work.  It appears not one that I have tried can do anything.  Granted I have only had my fire stick a couple of days and I have everything I need to install add-ons, but it won't allow me to do anything when I unzip them. Most won't even unzip.  Running 17.3.  I did networking for 12 years DSL, ISDN, ATM, ethernet  you name it. This appears to be something this old man cannot figure out or it is ummmm how should I say it...crap.  Perhaps not Kodi but the add-ons.

Once downloading the repo/addon zip to your stick have you gone to "install from zip file" in kodi? You shouldn't be unzipping the files manually.  Are there specific add-ons you're having an issue with?

Kodi has been working since 2002 without a hitch !
I see you mentioned "unzip", well you're not suppose to unzip the add-ons you simply install it as a zip file.

TY for responding...Perhaps I shouldn't be going to youtube to get instructions. From what I understand many of the add-ons have been having issues since June.  Again I am new to this but extremely frustrated. Noobandnerds, Exodus won't install, specto..I tried about 5.  It was easier coding Big blue stuff in layer 2 and 3..lol. This layer 7 stuff is beyond me I guess. I may just stick with Amazon prime.

Sorry I may have used a term that is not correct.  Install from zip file...I am used to opening a zip file.  I guess that is not what open from a zip file means it is not the same.  It does that ..with a few files.  When I get to open from repository it tells me no server available.  Sorry to have troubled.

^this.  There's hundreds of kids these days making YouTube videos, how-to's, zip files, etc that are not correct and only make matters worse. If there's anything you can't figure out even after reading through the page let us know.

usually theres some not bad stuff on youtube but by the time you try and weed through them all trying to find the good ones your better to come to place like here and ask for help... as well kodi's forum's are some of the best as far as kodi and the official plug-ins go... heres a better choice tho for anything unofficial...

Theres a few things that have changed in the last couple of months so its hard to say without knowing more specifics as to what your issue is... Currently your Kodi should be at 17.3 if  your on 17...

Depending on your issue, but the main reason most pushed up to 17 was the change in some streaming sources using https links which require the use of SSL which started with 17... all tho there are compiled versions of 16 with ssl enabled floating around but the normal kodi 16 doesn't so if your issues are based around the loss of certain links thats probably why... not sure what you mean by 40% tho...

anyways you need to provide more information for anyone to really help without guessing...

I use lubuntu, kodi runs like a top and glitch free.
Works great on any old Dual Core whatever with a paltry 2 gig memory

https://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=lubuntu

http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Install_Kodi_for_Linux
Copy and paste the 4 sudo command lines to the terminal

Change the skin to Confluence

Keep it simple start with these:
For live tv get cCloud TV
movies/tv:
Covenant - go to 'Networks' and like wow what a selection!
Genesis Reborn
Elysium
Exodus - recently the moves now go all the way back to 1901
White Devil - the movies in 4K/Ultra do work if your bandwith allows it
Specto Fork

BTW, check out 'Into The Badlands' from AMC
The first season is phenomenal!

Some might agree but others may have their favourites too.
