Nothing plays when having an advancedsettings.xml file
« on: August 27, 2017, 03:06:29 pm »
I have Kodi 17.4 Windows 10.

My specs are i7 6700k, gtx 1080, 32gb ram, 300 Mbit connection (tested speedtest.net)

I want to dedicate more resources to Kodi since they are available to ensure smoother playback.

But every time I create advancedsettings.xml file the video playback doesn't work. And every time I delete it from the userdata folder everything works.

Here's the file...

<advancedsettings>
    <cache>
        <buffermode>1</buffermode>
        <memorysize>6291456000</memorysize>
        <readfactor>20</readfactor>
    </cache>
</advancedsettings>

Even though your 32 GB of RAM should support a massive memorysize like that, I would suggest reducing that number by a factor of 10.
That will still give you about a 600 MB memorysize, which is still very large (Kodi's default size is only 20 MB).

My PC is similar to yours, but a bit less powerful and I haven't found a need for more than 200 MB.  I'm on WIN 10 running 17.3.

I would recommend you download easy advanced settings into kodi and set those value there then save it to XML file within the app. Use this URL to download it. http://repo.hackmykodi.com. Change your read buffer factor to 5
