Why won't Amazon & Roku stop sideloading?
« on: September 02, 2017, 02:49:16 pm »
Since Amazon and Roku are in such a big huff about their devices
getting sideloaded/jailbroken why don't they change the firmware
so that it can't be done?
For legitimate developers who need to sideload so they can develope apps, test,
etc, they can ship them devices that don't have the firmware changed.
Anyone, anyone....

Do you really think they are in a big huff about selling tens of thousands of their products? I remember when fire sticks were on back order from best buy and from amazon, they knew people were buying them for kodi and they were loving every minute of it.

Locking people out wouldn't be in there best interest marketing wise...

Besides theres really nothing special about Fire OS as its basically just a cookie cut Android copy with all of the google specific market knocked out and replaced with Amazons market crap... Its a cheap and eazy way for Amazon to steal the bottom end (cheap) market while fooling people into thinking that because they used alternative chips that the buyers getting a better looked after device the what your getting with the normal Amlogic-Rockchip wildwest... they were smart in their approach because its created a somewhat specialized side market for them and a few others chains licensing it...

Locking it down tho would definately put a big dent in their market as with a setup's like this they've got minimal investment laid out software wise and they benefit by letting others do all the heavy lifting which is whats driving their market...

Its all part of the major android box factorys greed and making the mistake of flooding the box market by selling to anyone and its now attracted the attention of other big retailers looking to get in on the rodeo... you got upper end companies like Nvidia go after the higher end market where the boxes are in the price range of some of the dedicated IPTV boxes while Amazon's gone after the cheaper market... people got tired of getting ripped off by non-working Android boxes and are scared of getting burned so they started looking at things that appear to come from more reputable sources...

Shutting people out tho is something that upset that apple cart and to keep it going they would have to actually pay more programmers to keep things going but the main thing is it would put them on the oher side of the fence when it comes to all the upcoming Digital Rights fights that are starting to happen over pre-loaded boxes...

Amazon... hm... talk about a bunch of hypocrites... lol
